Forrest G. Mummey

Aug. 19, 1919 - July 24, 1999

Forrest G. Mummey, 79, of Filbert Road, Mishawaka, Ind., passed away following an illness at 9:15 p.m. on Saturday, July 24, at home.

He was born on Aug. 19, 1919, in River-Park, Ind., to A. Omen and Anna Mummey, who preceded him in death.

On June 28, 1947, he married the former Doris Meyers in Mishawaka. She survives.

He is also survived by their children, Glen Mummey, F. Jay Mummey and Joyce Brenneman, all of South Bend, Ind., and Steven Mummey of Mishawaka; his grandchildren, Billy Brenneman Jr., Ryan Brenneman and Tasha Brenneman; a great-granddaughter, Kaitlynn Brenneman; his sister, Ledah Vaughn; and by his brothers, Billy Mummey of Mishawaka and George Mummey of South Bend.

Mr. Mummey was a mechanic for the Uniroyal Corporation for 28 years, retiring in 1982. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army, twice receiving the Purple Heart for injuries suffered in battle during World War II. He was a lifetime member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 360, Mishawaka, a lifetime member of the Disabled American Veterans, and a 27-year member of the American Legion. He was also a member of the Civilian Conservation Corps, serving mainly at what is now Pokagon State Park, and also served in the National Guard.

Friends will be received from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. today in the Bubb Funeral Chapel North, 3910 N. Main Street, Mishawaka, where services will be held at 2 p.m. on Wednesday. Burial will follow at Fairview Cemetery, Mishawaka.
