This remarkable man moved from Ohio to Dewitt, Clinton Co., Iowa with his parents in 1855, moved to western Iowa (likely Sac Co) in 1874, went to Union Co, OR in 1886 where he ran a dairy, moved to the Seattle area, living in Sultan and Ballard among other places. He made five trips to Alaska during the Gold Rush days. His second wife was killed and he badly wounded during a robbery of their home in 1924. His biography was published in a 1926 county history.
