Song Birds


This male Downy Woodpecker is looking for mulberries in a mulberry tree. While woodpeckers usually eat insects this one at least seems to also enjoy some ripe fruit.



This House Wren, sometimes called a "Jenny Wren" has made a nest inside a hollow gourd.



Here the male Wren sings his territorial song from a tree. House Wrens are some of our best singers, often calling out every few seconds all day long.


A juvenile female Bluebird pauses for a drink at the bird bath, above. A Cedar Waxwing was spotted with its "bandit mask" in a nearby tree, below.
