White River

White River, known to the native Indians as "Wapehani" rises about five miles south of Winchester, in Randolph County, near the Ohio border. It wanders through Randolph and Delaware Counties for about 60 miles before reaching Madison County and the city of Anderson. From Anderson, it follows a generally southwestward course, flowing through Indianapolis to reach the Wabash River in far southwestern Indiana. By the time it enters Anderson, it has drained large parts of Randolph, Delaware, and Henry Counties including the city of Muncie.

On the east edge of Anderson, the White River flows through Mounds State Park. It then follows a series of wooded areas, city parks, and wetlands until it reaches the center of the city, where it is joined by Killbuck Creek. White River, and its adjoining parks and woodlands, are home to many water fowl and other species of birds.
