Insects and Raccoon

A Honey Bee collects nectar from a flower to help her hive prepare for the coming winter. Our dry summer has been hard on the bees and they've had to work extra hard to find food.

Another Honey Bee looks for nectar and pollen on a Goldenrod blossom.

A Bumblebee is also collecting food for the coming winter, which it will spend in tunnels underground.

These Paper Wasps have constructed a large nest high up in a tree. They too will retreat to underground tunnels for the winter, abandoning their tree nest.

A Raccoon tries, without much success, to hide in the cavity of a ruined oak tree. He is using the ostrich's philosophy that "if I can't see you, you can't see me."
