A Canada Goose cruises the waters of the Killbuck Wetlands which are finally free of ice after having been locked in winter's grip for months.
A male goose keeps watch over the territory he has stacked out for nesting (above). A short time later he chases away another goose that got too close (below).
Meanwhile other members of the flock have not yet felt the urge to claim and defend nesting sites as they enjoy a sunny day together.
This appears to be a cross between a Graylag Goose and a Canada Goose. Graylags are a domestic breed. This hybrid goose hangs around with the Canada Geese but hasn't been accepted as part of their flock.
This is our little flock of "Shadyside Mix" ducks. Their ancestry is in doubt. They have considerable Mallard blood, but other breeds as well. Rejected by regular Mallards, they have formed their own little flock and stick together, summer and winter.
