Ball
Freezer Jar, logo 4 1946-1952
Notes:
These tapered jars with grippers and stippled
embossing were first made in September of 1946 and sold the next year. They were intended to take advantage of the
post-war popularity of home freezers.
The jars came in two sizes, 16 and 24 ounce.
The jars came with zinc Ball Freezer Jar caps that
could be used only for freezing use, but the jars would also accept the
standard widemouth Dome lids for canning.
The jars were tapered so that the contents could
be quickly removed by dipping the jar in hot water. The contents would still be frozen but would slide out of the
tapered jar. This was impossible with a
normal-shaped jar mason.
The Ball Freezer Jars were replaced by the Ball Refrigerator and
Freezer Jars around 1952.
