Notes:
These jars, with a
widemouth opening, have either a dimple or full-wire lightning finish. The words “Made In U.S.A.” sometimes appear
on the front or reverse.
During World War II, the
United States government forbid the making of widemouth jars, because they used
more metal than a regular-mouth jar to can the same amount of food, and metal
was necessary for the war effort. The
Eclipse Widemouth was re-introduced after the war in the new rounded-square
shape.
