Alexander's first wife is buried in McGee Cemetery, Harrison County, OH. Her brother, Richard M. Coultrap, said that the children lived with him for several months after her death. By 1850, the children are with Alexander in Morgan County, OH.
After
re-marrying in about 1851, he moved his family to Dewitt, Clinton County, IA
around 1857 - daughter Sarah died in Ohio in 1856: daughter Minnie was born in
Iowa in 1857. Census records says that his wife gave birth to four children, so
another child was likely born around 1854 and died before 1860..
In 1867 Alexander and family, minus daughter Ellen who had married, moved
across the state to Onawa. Alexander spent the rest of his life there. In 1868,
he purchased 26.7 acres of land in Monona Country from W. S. Phillips and wife.
He and his wife were charter members of the First Methodist Episcopal Chruch of
Onawa, organized 9 Oct 1870. Alexander was Assessor of Onawa from 1875 to 1877,
almost up to his death in 1878.
That Alexander is related to Christopher is indisputable. Not only were his movements identical to those of Christopher and his family - Harrison County, OH to Morgan County, OH to Dewitt Co., IA - but his daughter, as part of her claim for a pension, requested testimony of Mrs. Ellen Hammond of McConnelsville, OH. This can only be Christopher's daughter Eleanor who married William Hammond.
The exact connection is unknown at this time, but there must be one. See Mummey Mystery # 2 for more discussion.
